Lawyer Kwame Boafo Akuffo Esq is urging Parliament to create a new law. The law would permit the use of deadly force against individuals involved in illegal mining.
He stated this call to action applies to all illegal mining operations. These operations are reportedly occurring within the nation's forest reserves and impacting water bodies.
The proposed legislation would need to be passed by Parliament as an Act. This would officially authorize the use of lethal force under specific circumstances.
Mr Akuffo, a legal practitioner from Akropong Akuapem, believes this is a necessary step. He feels it is needed to combat the persistent issue of illegal mining.
The lawyer's suggestion follows ongoing concerns about environmental damage. Illegal mining activities have been linked to destruction of land and water pollution.
