The Toase District Court has remanded a 25-year-old labourer into prison custody for allegedly threatening to kill his mother during a domestic confrontation at Nkawie New Site.
The accused, Dauda Bediako, also known as Dauda Abdulai, pleaded not guilty to a charge of threat of death when he appeared before the court. The case is being presided over by His Honour Mr Robert Addo, who adjourned proceedings to January 27, 2026.
Presenting the facts, Police Detective Chief Inspector Ntim Boadu told the court that the complainant, Mariama Haruna, is the biological mother of the accused and that they both live together at Nkawie New Site within the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.
According to the prosecution, on January 5, 2026, at about noon, the accused allegedly harvested two bunches of plantain from his mother’s garden without her consent. When the complainant confronted him and attempted to retrieve the plantain, the situation escalated.
The court was told that the accused allegedly became aggressive, raised a cutlass, and threatened to kill his mother if she tried to take the plantain from him. Fearing for her safety, the complainant reportedly fled the scene and later reported the matter to the Nkawie Police.
Following the complaint, officers of the Ghana Police Service arrested the accused. In his caution statement, Dauda Bediako denied threatening his mother.
Police investigations were subsequently completed, and the accused was charged and brought before the court. The prosecution applied for the accused to be remanded, citing the seriousness of the allegation and the need to protect the complainant while investigations continue.
The court granted the application and remanded the accused into prison custody. The matter is expected to return before the court on January 27, 2026, for further proceedings.
All allegations against the accused remain unproven, and he is presumed innocent unless and until a court of law determines otherwise.
