The Ghana Police Service has opened an investigation into the death of a seventeen year old student in Kasoa within the Central Region. According to reports from 3News and Citi Newsroom the body of the deceased was discovered buried in a shallow grave on Tuesday. Local residents and a youth led search party made the discovery after the teenager was reported missing by family members earlier in the week.

Police officials at the Kasoa Divisional Command confirmed that two teenagers were detained for questioning in connection with the incident. Adom News reports that the two suspects were identified as close associates or friends who were allegedly the last people seen with the victim before his disappearance. The identities of the suspects have been withheld by authorities due to their status as minors under the Juvenile Justice Act.

The remains have been transported to the Police Hospital mortuary in Accra for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. GhanaWeb reports that investigators are processing the scene where the body was found to gather forensic evidence. Police have not yet filed formal charges but are treating the case as a suspected homicide based on the circumstances of the burial.

At the time of this report the motive for the alleged killing remains unconfirmed by official sources. Local leaders in the Kasoa community have appealed for calm as the investigation proceeds. The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to provide any relevant information that could assist in clarifying the events leading to the death of the student.
