The Ghana Police Service has launched an intensive investigation and manhunt for a group of armed individuals responsible for the death of a mobile money agent. According to a Citi Newsroom report the incident occurred on the evening of Monday May 20 2024 within the Kasoa vicinity of the Central Region. The victim was allegedly targeted at his shop by gunmen who arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire before escaping into the surrounding neighborhood.
Witnesses at the scene told Adom News reporters that the sounds of gunfire caused immediate panic among residents and nearby traders. Emergency responders arrived shortly after the attack but the victim was pronounced dead on arrival at a local medical facility. A MyJoyOnline report indicates that the attackers successfully made away with a bag containing revenue and several mobile devices belonging to the deceased vendor.
The Kasoa Divisional Police Command has deployed additional patrol units to the area to enhance security and assist in the apprehension of the suspects. Official statements from police investigators confirm that forensic teams have processed the crime scene for evidence including spent shell casings. Authorities are currently reviewing available closed circuit television footage from nearby businesses to identify the perpetrators and their escape route.
Community leaders in Kasoa have expressed growing concern regarding the safety of small scale financial operators in the municipality.
