The Ghana Police Service apprehended a local chief and two other individuals in the Ga South Municipality following a violent confrontation concerning land boundaries. According to an Adom Online report, the arrests followed a series of clashes that resulted in several people sustaining injuries. The police intervention sought to restore order after community members reported the presence of armed groups operating in the area.
Citi Newsroom reports that the dispute centered on a contested boundary between neighboring communities which escalated when suspected land guards were deployed to the site. The Ghana Police Service indicated that the arrested chief is suspected of sponsoring these unauthorized groups to enforce territorial claims. Investigators are currently working to identify other accomplices who fled the scene during the initial police response.
Official statements from the police command suggest that the suspects are being held to assist with ongoing investigations into charges of causing harm and participating in organized land guard activities. While the names of the suspects have not been officially released to the public, the police confirmed that the victims of the clash received medical attention at local facilities. The Daily Graphic reported that security has been intensified in the Ga South area to prevent further reprisals between the factions.
The suspects are expected to be processed for court once preliminary investigations are concluded by the regional CID. Adom Online noted that the community remains tense as authorities continue to monitor the disputed land to ensure no further construction or demarcation takes place. The Ghana Police Service maintains that the use of land guards is illegal under the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act and has vowed to prosecute all financiers of such groups.
