Police in Tarkwa have arrested a couple. They are suspected of running an illegal mining site.

The site was allegedly operating on a concession that belongs to a mining company. This is according to a Ghana Police Service report.

The couple was taken into custody by the Tarkwa Divisional Police. Further details about their operation are expected.

They have been remanded. This means they will stay in police custody while detectives investigate the case further.

Illegal mining, often called galamsey, can cause environmental damage and conflict. Authorities are working to stop such activities.
