A jury has found Kouri Richins guilty of the murder of her husband, Eric Richins. The conviction came after a trial that lasted several weeks.
Prosecutors stated Richins poisoned her husband in March 2022. She allegedly put five times the safe amount of fentanyl into a cocktail she made for him.
She is believed to have committed the crime to gain control of his assets worth millions of dollars. Richins wrote a children's book about dealing with grief after losing a loved one.
The book was published months after her husband's death. Authorities presented evidence during the trial showing her financial motives.
The husband died after drinking the beverage. He had reportedly consumed it believing it would help him sleep.
The jury reached its guilty verdict following deliberations. Richins faces sentencing at a later date.
