An 87-year-old man named Yaw Gahornu is in custody. He appeared before the Osu Court on charges of defilement.
The court heard that Gahornu allegedly defiled a nine-year-old girl. The incident is said to have occurred at Ofankor, near Accra.
Court filings state that Gahornu and the complainant live in the same neighbourhood. The accused's sleeping structure is located about 40 metres from the victim's home.
The Ghana Police Service is investigating the matter further.
Further court proceedings are scheduled to determine the next steps in the case.
