Most of Ghana's traffic lights are not working. Roads Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza shared this finding from a national assessment. He stated that only 257 out of 411 traffic light systems are currently functioning.
The Minister indicated that several problems are causing the traffic lights to fail. These include crashes damaging the equipment, theft of parts, and money owed to contractors who installed the lights.
This lack of functioning traffic lights can create confusion on the roads. It may also lead to more traffic jams and potentially increase the risk of accidents.
The assessment covers the entire country. The Minister did not specify which regions are most affected by the non-working traffic signals.
The government is looking into the causes of the failures. Solutions are being explored to repair and maintain the crucial traffic infrastructure.
