A commercial driver identified as Eric Mensah appeared before the Tarkwa Circuit Court following his arrest for multiple traffic violations. According to a Ghana Police Service statement the suspect was captured on video performing an unsafe overtaking maneuver on the Tarkwa to Ahwitieso highway. This footage circulated widely on social media platforms leading to a swift investigation by the Tarkwa Divisional Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department.

During the court proceedings the prosecution established that the driver Endangered other road users through reckless conduct. Modern Ghana reports that the court presided over by Her Honour Hathia Ama Mano sentenced the driver to pay a fine of 200 penalty units. This amount is equivalent to 2400 Ghana Cedis and the court ordered a term of nineteen months in prison should the convict fail to pay the fine.

The Ghana Police Service confirmed that the vehicle involved was a Toyota Hiace with registration number AS 9214 to 22. Official police records indicate that the driver was charged with five counts including dangerous driving and driving without a valid license. Citi Newsroom reports that the police administration praised the public for providing the video evidence that led to the capture and prosecution of the offender.

Road safety officials have used this case to remind motorists of the legal consequences of reckless driving. A report by the Ghana News Agency notes that the Tarkwa Divisional Police intensified their highway monitoring following this incident to deter similar behavior. The convict Eric Mensah reportedly paid the fine to avoid the custodial sentence according to unconfirmed local court reports mentioned in the Modern Ghana coverage.
