The Ghana Police Service Motor Traffic and Transport Department has initiated a search for a driver involved in a fatal accident on the N1 Highway. According to a Ghana News Agency report, a vehicle struck a pedestrian near the Dzorwulu overhead before fleeing the scene without providing assistance or reporting the incident to authorities.
A report from Citi Newsroom indicates that the victim died on the spot from injuries sustained during the impact. Police officials have confirmed that the body of the deceased was transported to a local morgue for preservation and autopsy while investigations continue into the exact circumstances of the collision.
Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage obtained from businesses located along the highway to identify the make and license plate of the vehicle. Graphic Online reports that the police administration is appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the event or have information about the vehicle involved to come forward.
The police have not yet released the identity of the deceased pending notification of the next of kin. A GhanaWeb report states that traffic personnel remained at the location for several hours to manage the flow of vehicles and ensure the safety of other road users during the initial evidence gathering process.
