Motorcycles used for public transport, known as okada, are now officially accepted in Ghana. Abraham Amaliba, Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority, said this is a new development.
He explained that these motorcycles have become a common way for people to get around the country.
Because okada is now a regular transport option, the government sees the need for rules. Amaliba stated that regulations are being developed to make these services safer.
These new rules aim to protect both the okada riders and the passengers they carry.
The focus will be on improving safety standards for this form of transport.
