Chelsea coach Liam Rosenior said goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was "really disappointed" to be left out of the recent match against Aston Villa.
Rosenior stressed that the team does not have a set number one goalkeeper at this time.
Sanchez, a Spanish international, received criticism for his performance including distribution errors and mistakes at set-pieces.
These issues were noted after the team's 2-1 defeat against Arsenal.
Filip Jorgensen of Denmark started in Sanchez's place for that game.
Rosenior stated that he wants strong competition for the goalkeeping position.
