The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery incident that led to the death of a miner at Asonkore SSNIT Flats Down, a suburb of Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
The suspect, identified by police as Rahman Adams, also known as Wale, was arrested on January 18, 2026, at Pomposo during an intelligence-led operation. Police say the arrest is linked to a residential robbery that occurred on December 12, 2025.
According to police, armed assailants attacked a house at Asonkore during the incident. Officers who responded to the scene found the body of a 42-year-old miner inside the house. Preliminary investigations indicate that the attackers gained entry by cutting through a burglar-proof window.
Police say the assailants robbed the occupants of cash amounting to GH¢2,600, a laptop, and a vehicle ignition key. During the attack, the miner was allegedly assaulted and later died from his injuries. The circumstances surrounding his death are still under investigation.
Items retrieved from the scene included hammers, machetes, and cutters, which police believe were used in the attack. The body of the deceased was conveyed to the Obuasi Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Investigators have identified two other suspects believed to have played key roles in the robbery and killing. One of them has been identified only as A.T., while the other is described as a Nigerian national. Both are currently at large, and police say efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest them.
Rahman Adams remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations. Police have stressed that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has appealed to the public to volunteer credible information that could help track down the remaining suspects as investigations continue.
