The Member of Parliament for Offinso North, Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, has spoken out against the government’s decision to lower the price paid to cocoa farmers.
Dr. Asamoah stated that this move by the government is a betrayal of the farmers.
He mentioned that these farmers had supported the ruling administration based on promises made during election campaigns.
The MP suggested that instead of reducing the price farmers receive for their cocoa, the government should have established a special support fund.
This fund would have aimed to assist cocoa farmers directly.
Dr. Asamoah believes such a fund would have been a more beneficial way to support the agricultural sector and the farmers who are vital to it.
