The Member of Parliament for Offinso North, Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, has voiced strong disapproval of the government’s decision to lower the producer price for cocoa.
Dr. Asamoah stated that this move is a betrayal to cocoa farmers. He mentioned that these farmers had supported the ruling administration during elections based on promises made.
Instead of cutting the price farmers receive for their cocoa, Dr. Asamoah suggested an alternative approach.
He proposed that the government could have established a special support fund for the farmers.
This fund would have provided financial assistance and security to the farmers.
The MP believes this would have been a more beneficial action for the farming community.
He feels the current decision will negatively impact the livelihoods of many hardworking farmers.
The government has not yet responded to Dr. Asamoah’s comments.
