Walid Regragui has left his position as the head coach of the Moroccan national football team. He was 50 years old.

Regragui guided the Atlas Lions to a historic semi-final appearance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. This made them the first African team to reach that stage of the tournament.

The decision comes just under four months before the upcoming World Cup finals.

Mohamed Ouahbi, aged 49, has been promoted to take charge as the new head coach.

The specific reasons for Regragui's departure were not immediately stated.
