The Minority Caucus in Parliament has called for the immediate arrest of people who attacked the National Health Insurance Authority office in Ejisu. The office was closed unlawfully.
Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie, who is the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Health Committee, spoke at a press conference. He described the action as a serious attack.
He said the protest by some NDC youth in Ejisu was unacceptable. He stated that such actions disrupt essential services and disrespect the rule of law.
The NDC youth were reportedly protesting unmet demands. The Minority Caucus stated that violence and disruption are not the way to address grievances.
They urged security agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly. They want all perpetrators identified and brought to justice.
The caucus emphasized the importance of the NHIA services. They said these services are vital for many Ghanaians. Closing the office affects people needing healthcare access.
They called for calm and adherence to legal processes for resolving disputes. Such actions, they added, tarnish the image of democratic processes.
