John Dumelo, the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, says that stopping food smuggling is important. He wants decisive action to halt the illegal bringing of food from Togo into Ghana.
Mr Dumelo believes that ending these activities will make local food production stronger. It will also encourage people to choose Ghanaian products.
He stated that relying on imported goods weakens the country's own farming sector.
The minister made these remarks regarding the need to protect Ghana's food industry.
Efforts to boost local consumption of Ghanaian food are a priority.
