The Ghana Navy has successfully rescued seven people found hiding on a ship at sea. The rescue took place approximately 200 nautical miles away from the coast of Tema.
The individuals were discovered inside the rudder trunk of a crude oil tanker. This part of the ship is located at the very back, below the water.
The tanker is named MT Cap Felix and flies the Belgian flag. It is a large ship designed for carrying crude oil.
Navy officials confirmed the rescue operation. The seven people are believed to be stowaways. Stowaways are people who hide on a ship to travel without paying or being seen.
These stowaways are thought to be from a Ghanaian community living in Côte d'Ivoire. They were hidden for an unknown period.
The rescued individuals are now under the protection and care of the Ghana Navy. Further investigations will determine their status and next steps.
The incident highlights the risks people take to travel and the challenges of securing large vessels at sea.
The Ghana Navy continues its patrols to ensure the safety and security of Ghana's maritime borders.
