Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, a former parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party for the Klottey Korle constituency, has been arrested in the United States and charged in connection with the alleged stabbing of his wife during a domestic dispute.
Lower Paxton Township police in Pennsylvania say Nortey, 41, was taken into custody following an incident on the morning of Saturday, January 17, 2026, at a residence on Mayfair Drive. Responding officers discovered a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. First responders transported her to hospital, where police later described her condition as stable.
Authorities charged Nortey with offences that include criminal attempt at homicide, possessing an instrument of a crime with intent to use, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. These charges were filed as part of a domestic violence investigation being led by Lower Paxton Township police.
Court records show that Nortey was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Judy. The judge denied his request for bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the charges and ordered that he remain in custody at the Dauphin County Prison pending further proceedings. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for January 26, 2026, during which a judge will determine whether there is sufficient evidence to move the case to trial.
Nortey rose to prominence in Ghanaian politics as a candidate for the Klottey Korle seat in the 2016 and 2020 election cycles, making him a well-known figure within party circles and among the Ghanaian diaspora in the United States.
U.S. authorities emphasised that the incident was an isolated domestic matter and that there was no threat posed to the wider public. Investigators spent several hours processing the scene at the Mayfair Drive property and are continuing their inquiries as the case progresses.
Nortey’s legal situation is now before the American courts, and he remains in custody ahead of the next scheduled hearing. Further details about the case will emerge as proceedings unfold.
