Former Nigerian footballer Michael Eneramo has died. He was 40 years old.

Eneramo collapsed on the pitch during a friendly match held in Kaduna on Friday.

The collapse happened five minutes into the second half of the game.

Doctors believe he suffered a cardiac arrest, which is a sudden stoppage of the heart.

Eneramo had a career playing for the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, earning 10 caps.

He also played professionally in several countries including Tunisia, Algeria, and Saudi Arabia.

The Nigerian Football Federation announced his passing.
