Police in the Central Region are investigating a daylight armed robbery at Diaso in the Upper Denkyira West District, where a gang of five men attacked a gold shop and escaped with a large quantity of gold and a vehicle.

According to information confirmed by police and local media reports, the incident occurred on market day, when Diaso was busy with traders and residents. The attackers arrived in a vehicle and split roles at the scene. Four of them entered the gold shop while one suspect remained outside, firing warning shots to frighten people nearby.

Eyewitnesses say the gunman outside the shop was armed with an assault rifle and a sidearm, and his actions caused panic in the area. Traders and residents fled for safety as the robbery unfolded in broad daylight.

After taking the gold, which police sources say is valued at several billion cedis, the suspects also made away with a pickup vehicle belonging to the shop. The robbers abandoned the vehicle they used to arrive at the scene before fleeing.

Police say one suspect has since been arrested in connection with the robbery. The remaining four suspects are currently on the run, and a manhunt has been launched to locate and arrest them.

The incident has generated tension in the community. Some residents reportedly gathered at the local police station following the arrest, demanding access to the suspect. Police intervened to restore calm and have since increased security patrols in the area.
