The Ghana Police Service has arrested three individuals on suspicion of stealing underground high tension cables belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana in the Kasoa area. According to a GhanaWeb report confirmed by local police statements the suspects were caught while allegedly dismantling the infrastructure in a move that led to significant regional blackouts.

Police authorities state that the operation occurred during the early hours of the morning when the suspects were spotted near key utility points. A Citi Newsroom report mentions that the Electricity Company of Ghana officials identified the damaged property as critical for local power distribution which resulted in a forced outage for several hours while repairs were conducted.

The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue into the extent of the damage and the potential involvement of other accomplices. Legal representatives for the suspects have not yet issued a public statement regarding the allegations and the individuals are currently awaiting their first appearance before a magistrate court as noted by the Ghana Police Service communications directorate.
