Police have seized a massive amount of stolen electricity cables. The cables belong to the Electricity Company of Ghana, ECG. This happened in Tema.
The operation recovered over 100 tonnes of the stolen wires. Officers from the Criminal Investigations Department led the raid.
Ten people were arrested at the scene. About 70 workers were discovered actively cutting and stripping the cables when police arrived.
This action by the Ghana Police Service aims to stop the theft of vital infrastructure. Stolen cables can cause power outages and damage. The ECG relies on its cables to provide electricity to homes and businesses.
The suspects are now in police custody. They will face further questioning. The investigation is ongoing.
Authorities are working to identify the full extent of the operation. They want to find out how the cables were stolen and where they came from.
This recovery is a significant blow to those involved in stealing and processing the stolen ECG property. It shows police commitment to protecting national assets.
