The Ghana Police Service conducted a targeted operation to dismantle a criminal syndicate involved in high value vehicle thefts across the Greater Accra Region. According to a report by 3News, the specialized unit intercepted the gang after a series of reported carjackings where victims were allegedly held at gunpoint. The police confiscated several vehicles during the raid including luxury SUVs and sedans that were in various stages of being rebranded for resale.
Official statements from the Ghana Police Service indicate that the group operated by seizing vehicles in residential areas and then transporting them to hidden workshops. Once at these locations, the suspects purportedly used specialized equipment to tamper with chassis numbers and engine codes to evade detection. The Daily Graphic reported that investigators found stolen license plates and forged registration documents during the search of the syndicate premises.
While the 3News report identified the suspects as being part of a long standing network, the Ghana Police Service has not yet released the full names of all individuals in custody pending further forensic analysis. Authorities stated that the syndicate specifically targeted high end models which were easier to liquify in the second hand market. Police officials confirmed that the suspects will face charges related to robbery, possession of firearms, and motor vehicle fraud.
The Ghana Police Service has cautioned members of the public to verify the history of any used vehicle through the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority before concluding a purchase. Citi Newsroom reported that this bust is part of a broader security initiative to curb property crime within the capital city. All suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue into potential accomplices within the regional automotive supply chain.
