A 24-year-old farmer has been fined GHC7,200 by the Nsuta Circuit Court. Dauda Ibrahim, also known as Yaro, was sentenced on Tuesday in the Ashanti Region.

The court convicted Ibrahim for stealing local gin, known as Akpeteshie. The stolen alcohol was valued at thousands of cedis.

Ibrahim faces a three-year jail sentence if he fails to pay the fine. The court records show the conviction occurred on Tuesday.

His alleged accomplice in the theft remains at large. Authorities are continuing efforts to locate this individual.

The incident highlights ongoing issues with the illegal production and sale of local spirits in the region.
