Members of Parliament are pressing the Finance Ministry to release non-salary related allowance arrears owed to Ghana Prisons Service officers. The Minority Caucus on the Employment Labour Relations and Pensions Committee made this call.

The Caucus expressed serious worry about the long delay in these payments. They released a statement about the issue on February 23.

Their statement referred to a communication from the Prisons Administration. This document, dated February 17 2026, confirmed the outstanding payments.

Prisons officers have been awaiting these allowances for a significant period. The outstanding payments are not related to their regular salaries.

Lawmakers are urging the Finance Ministry to act quickly. They want the Ministry to ensure these crucial payments are made without further delay.

The Caucus highlighted the importance of these allowances for the morale and welfare of the officers. This matter affects those who serve in Ghana's correctional facilities.
