The Minority Caucus on Parliament’s Committee on Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions has asked the Finance Ministry to pay allowances.
These payments are non-salary related and are owed to officers of the Ghana Prisons Service. The Caucus is deeply concerned about the long delay.
A statement from the Caucus, dated February 23, highlighted the issue. It referred to a Prisons Administration communiqué from February 17, 2026.
The communiqué confirmed that the payments were still pending. The Minority believes these delays negatively affect the officers.
They stated that the lack of payment can lower morale and impact the effectiveness of the Ghana Prisons Service. They are pushing for a quick resolution.
The Minority Caucus serves on the parliamentary committee for Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions. They are advocating for the officers' welfare.
