A food vendor in Kumasi has been sentenced to 20 days in prison. Kande Seidu operated a food stall at Alabar Market.

She was found guilty of using open fire inside the busy market area. This practice violated orders set by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.

The District Court Two at Prempeh Assembly Hall delivered the sentence on Monday, March 16, 2026. Her Worship Deborah Gyawa Donkor presided over the case.

The prosecutor presented evidence of the violation to the court. The court determined that the vendor’s actions posed a risk to public health and safety within the market.

The jail term serves as a warning against non-compliance with market regulations designed to ensure hygiene and safety for all patrons and vendors.

This action highlights the ongoing efforts by authorities to maintain sanitary conditions in public spaces like Alabar Market.

Adherence to established KMA rules is crucial for vendors operating in such public areas.

The sentence aims to deter future occurrences of similar violations that could endanger the community.
