Three suspected armed robbers were killed during a confrontation with police in the Ashanti Region on Christmas Eve, according to a police situational report seen by Graphic Online. The incident occurred in a bush area between Anwiankwanta and the Jacobu Junction following what police described as an intelligence-led operation.

The deceased have been identified by police as Seidu Issah, aged 29, Musah Yakubu, aged 35, and Yahaya Munkaila, also known as Tijani, aged 25. Police said the three were part of a group of five men who were allegedly preparing to carry out a robbery along the Anwiankwanta to Obuasi road.

According to the situational report, police received intelligence on December 24, 2025, that the suspected gang had assembled in the bush between Anwiankwanta and Jacobu Junction. Acting on the information, a police team deployed four service vehicles to the area to disrupt the planned attack.

Police said that upon arrival, officers spotted about five young men armed with guns. The report stated that the suspects opened fire on the police team when they realised the presence of security personnel and attempted to flee through the bush. Officers returned fire, during which three of the suspects sustained gunshot injuries. The remaining two suspects, also believed to have suffered gunshot wounds, managed to escape.

The injured suspects were transported to the Bekwai Municipal Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Police said items retrieved from the scene included two pump-action guns loaded with six rounds of ammunition each, one unbranded pistol, and a sack containing twenty-five live cartridges and six spent cartridges.

The situational report further indicated that the deceased suspects and their accomplices were wanted in connection with several robberies and killings in Manso, Jacobu and Anwiankwanta and surrounding areas. Police have not provided details of any specific cases linked to the individuals.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Efforts are underway to apprehend the two remaining suspects and to recover any additional weapons linked to the group. Police have reiterated that all persons mentioned are suspects and that investigations will determine the facts of the case.
