The Tema Regional Police Command has announced the interception of a large consignment of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs following a coordinated intelligence-led operation in the Greater Accra Region.

In a press release dated January 13, 2026, the Ghana Police Service said officers acted on intelligence received on January 10, 2026, indicating that suspected narcotic substances were being transported from the Volta Region toward Tema. Surveillance was mounted along the Akosombo–Tema road, with particular focus on the Agomeda Junction area.

Police said that at about 12:45 a.m. on January 11, 2026, two vehicles were intercepted. The vehicles were identified as a white Toyota Highlander with registration number GS 2013-13 and a black Mitsubishi Pajero with registration number GC 400-22.

According to the police statement, the vehicles were being driven by Isaac Odoi, aged 33, and Kwame Mani, aged 39. A search conducted on the vehicles led to the discovery of multiple compressed parcels wrapped in yellow material, suspected to be narcotic drugs.

The suspects were immediately arrested, and both vehicles were escorted to the police station for further action. On January 12, 2026, the suspects and the seized items were handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigation Department in Tema, where photographs and inventories were taken.

Police said a total of 1,613 parcels were intercepted. Of these, 872 parcels were found in the Mitsubishi Pajero, while 741 parcels were retrieved from the Toyota Highlander.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with investigations. Police said samples of the seized substances will be sent to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for testing to confirm their nature. Searches are also expected to be conducted at the suspects’ places of residence as part of ongoing investigations.

The police indicated that preparations are underway to arraign the suspects before court. All allegations remain subject to investigation, and the suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

The Tema Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations against drug trafficking and related crimes. Police have encouraged members of the public to continue providing credible information to support security efforts and help keep communities safe.
