President John Dramani Mahama has concluded that petitions filed against the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, her two deputies, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare and Samuel Tettey, as well as Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, do not meet the constitutional threshold required for their removal.

Under Ghana’s Constitution, a petition for the removal of certain independent office holders must first establish a prima facie case before further steps, such as the setting up of an investigative committee, can be taken. In this instance, the President determined that the material presented in the petitions did not establish sufficient grounds to trigger the next stage of the constitutional process.

Consequently, no investigative committee will be formed, and no further removal proceedings will be initiated at this stage. This decision effectively brings the petition process to an end, unless new evidence or fresh petitions are submitted in accordance with constitutional provisions.
