Police officers have begun a special operation across Ghana to stop illegal mining activities. This new effort is called Operation Halt II.

The main goal of Operation Halt II is to protect the country's water bodies and forest reserves from further damage.

The Ghana Police Service announced the start of this operation. They said it is a serious effort to address the ongoing problem of illegal mining.

During the operation, several individuals suspected of engaging in illegal mining have been arrested.

Authorities have also seized various tools and equipment used in the illegal mining operations.

This police action follows concerns about the environmental damage caused by illegal mining, often called galamsey.

The operation intends to enforce laws against illegal extraction of resources from the earth.

Protecting natural resources is a priority for the government and the police.
