Members of the national security taskforce acting under the Operation Halt mandate have conducted a successful intelligence led sweep of suspected illegal mining sites. This recent enforcement activity focused on the periphery of the Pra River where unauthorized extraction activities have reportedly caused significant damage to the aquatic ecosystem and surrounding vegetation.

During the exercise the operational team identified and intercepted more than twelve excavators that were allegedly being utilized for unlicensed mining purposes. Following standard protocols established for the protection of national water bodies the security personnel immobilized and destroyed the heavy equipment on site to prevent further environmental impact by the operators.

The operation targeted several coordinates where suspected miners had bypassed regulatory frameworks to set up temporary camps and processing units. Authorities indicate that the presence of such equipment in these protected zones constitutes a direct violation of environmental laws and mining regulations currently in force across the country.

Legal representatives for the taskforce stated that these measures are necessary to deter persistent encroachment into restricted zones. While the owners of the destroyed equipment have not yet been publicly identified intelligence gathering continues to track the financial backers of these alleged clandestine operations.

Local communities have been advised to report any suspicious activities near the river banks as security forces maintain a presence in the area. The destruction of the machinery serves as a firm reminder of the government strategy to eliminate unauthorized mining practices that threaten public health and water security in Ghana.
