Officers from the Ghana Police Service arrested two men in Ashaiman following the discovery of illegal firearms during a routine stop and search operation. According to a GhanaWeb report, the suspects were traveling in a commercial vehicle when police personnel intercepted the transport for a security check.
During the inspection of the vehicle, the police retrieved two unlicensed pistols and a quantity of live ammunition hidden within the cabin. A Citi Newsroom report indicated that the security operation was part of an ongoing effort to curb the proliferation of small arms within the Tema and Ashaiman municipalities.
The Ghana Police Service stated that the two individuals were taken into custody immediately for further interrogation. Investigators are currently working to determine the source of the weapons and whether the suspects have links to recent criminal activities in the Greater Accra Region.
Official police records indicate that the suspects will face charges related to the possession of firearms without lawful excuse. While the names of the accused have not been publicly released, authorities confirmed to Graphic Online that the items have been processed as evidence for the upcoming court proceedings.
