The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a man identified as Stephen Kwakye in connection with an alleged conspiracy to rob a gold miner at Manso Abrense near Manso Nsiana in the Ashanti Region. The arrest was carried out on December 30, 2025, following intelligence received by police about a planned robbery.

According to police, the suspect and other accomplices were allegedly planning to attack a miner who routinely transports gold from the area to Kumasi for sale. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect played a central role in organising the planned robbery. Police say he is alleged to have monitored the victim’s movements and coordinated with others to ambush the miner while in transit.

Police said officers acted on the intelligence by closely monitoring developments related to the suspected plan. The suspect was arrested when he reportedly arrived to collect his share of proceeds after being informed that the robbery had been successful. Authorities have not disclosed details of how the staged operation unfolded or whether any property was actually taken from the intended victim.

During interrogation, police say the suspect admitted to his role in organising the robbery. The police have not stated whether a formal statement has been taken or whether the admission has been recorded in accordance with investigative procedures.

Stephen Kwakye is currently in police custody assisting investigations. Police say efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other suspected accomplices linked to the alleged conspiracy.

Authorities have indicated that the suspect will be processed in line with the law and reminded the public that all persons mentioned in criminal investigations are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
