The Ghana Police Service conducted a targeted operation in the Bortianor area of the Greater Accra Region resulting in the arrest of seven individuals suspected of being land guards. According to a Ghana Police Service statement the suspects were apprehended for allegedly harassing residents and construction developers over land ownership disputes.
A Citi Newsroom report indicates that the operation followed several complaints from members of the community who claimed they were being threatened by armed groups. The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations into various land related crimes within the enclave.
A report by Graphic Online suggests that the police recovered several items during the raid including tools and equipment suspected of being used in illegal land operations. The names of the seven suspects have not yet been officially released by the authorities as they undergo further interrogation to determine their links to specific criminal networks.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to dismantling land guard structures across the country. According to a GhanaWeb report police officials have warned land owners against employing private individuals to protect properties using force as such actions violate the laws of the state and threaten public peace.
