The Accra Regional Police Command has announced the arrest of seven individuals suspected to be part of a notorious highway robbery syndicate operating across parts of Greater Accra and neighbouring regions.
In a press release dated January 10, 2026, the police said the arrests were carried out in collaboration with the Eastern Regional Police Command following intelligence-led investigations into a series of violent robberies.
According to the police, the suspects are believed to be responsible for multiple highway robbery attacks targeting motorists and passengers along major routes, including the Tema Motorway, Achimota Forest Road, Pokuase, Amasaman, Suhum–Nankese, and the Lusor–Kumasi stretch.
The police said one of the robberies occurred on November 30, 2025, when the suspects allegedly blocked a road, attacked a residence at Peduase, Aburi, and robbed occupants of mobile phones, jewellery, and an unspecified amount of cash while armed with firearms.
Investigations led officers of the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate to arrest one of the suspects, identified as Kwame Bedikye, also known as Star Boy, on January 30, 2026. During interrogation, police said he mentioned the involvement of others in the robbery gang.
Acting on information obtained, police later arrested Bedikye at Abekuma Agape. A search at his residence led to the retrieval of a pump-action gun concealed within the fence wall, along with four BB cartridges. Police said the suspect admitted involvement in several robbery cases.
Further investigations revealed that the group was linked to additional robberies, including attacks on market women, motorists, and drivers. Police also linked the syndicate to a fatal robbery incident in which a driver lost his life. Some of the suspects are currently receiving medical treatment, while others are in custody assisting with investigations.
The suspects named by police include Salifu Mohammed, also known as Kwaku Nku; Kofi Ishmael, also known as Ishmael Addo; Kwame Bedikye, also known as Star Boy; Alex Kpakpo; Ishmael Addo; Kwasi Akamble; Kwasi Fresh; and Abdul Ntiam. Police said some of the suspects were arrested at different locations and times based on intelligence gathered.
Items retrieved during the operations include firearms, ammunition, machetes, knives, mobile phones, and other items suspected to have been used in the commission of the crimes.
The Ghana Police Service said investigations are continuing to trace and arrest remaining accomplices believed to be part of the syndicate. The police also appealed to the public to provide information that could assist in ongoing investigations.
Authorities reiterated that all suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
