The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man identified as Abdulai Ibrahim for the alleged unlawful possession and attempted sale of a firearm in Accra. The arrest was carried out on December 29, 2025, by the Special Support Unit to the Inspector General of Police following intelligence that the suspect was in possession of an assault rifle and intended to sell it within the Greater Accra Region.

According to police accounts, the suspect was arrested at Sodom and Gomorrah after arranging to meet individuals believed to be prospective buyers of the weapon. Preliminary investigations indicate that during the meeting, the suspect presented a box containing a CZ rifle, which he allegedly offered for sale at a price of thirty five thousand Ghana cedis.

Police say the suspect further disclosed during interrogation that he had previously transported several pump action guns to individuals in the Northern Region. He is also alleged to have claimed that the firearms were sourced from an arms dealer operating around the UTC area in Accra. Police say this information has prompted expanded investigations to identify and arrest all persons connected to the alleged illegal arms supply network.

The firearm involved in the attempted transaction was retrieved during the arrest and has since been secured by the police for examination and evidentiary purposes. Authorities have not disclosed whether ammunition was recovered or whether additional weapons have been traced to the suspect at this stage.

Abdulai Ibrahim is currently in police custody assisting with investigations. Police say he will be processed in accordance with the law as inquiries continue. Authorities have stressed that the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.

The Ghana Police Service says the arrest forms part of broader efforts to curb the unlawful possession, movement, and sale of firearms, particularly in urban centres. Police have urged the public to provide information that could help disrupt illegal arms trafficking and enhance public safety.
