The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects in connection with a series of robberies involving taxi cabs and unsuspecting passengers.
The arrests were announced by the police on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, through official posts on the Service’s social media platforms. According to the police, the suspects are believed to be part of a syndicate that used taxis as a cover to steal mobile phones and other valuables from victims.
The suspects have been identified as Sasu Lawrence, also known as Agbe, Richard Osei, and Charles Kofi Nti, also known as Survivor. Police say they were arrested on January 12, 2026, following intelligence-led operations.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects posed as taxi drivers and passengers to carry out the robberies. Police said two of the suspects would sit in the front seats of the vehicle, with one acting as the driver, while the third suspect positioned himself in the back seat.
According to investigators, when a victim boarded the taxi, the suspects would deliberately lock the doors, making it difficult for the passenger to alight. Police said the victims were mostly women, and their mobile phones and other personal belongings were taken during the encounters.
The police have not disclosed where the arrests took place or whether any stolen items were recovered. They also did not indicate whether the suspects have been formally charged or arraigned before court.
Authorities say the suspects remain in custody and are assisting with investigations. Police have stressed that all allegations are subject to investigation and that the suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.
The Ghana Police Service has urged members of the public to exercise caution when using taxis, particularly during early morning hours. Police have also encouraged passengers to report any suspicious behaviour immediately to law enforcement agencies to help prevent similar crimes.
