A 21-year-old man has tragically died after being electrocuted while allegedly attempting to steal copper cables from a transformer. The incident has brought renewed attention to the persistent issue of utility theft in Ghana and the grave dangers it presents to individuals and critical infrastructure.

Police and emergency responders confirmed that the incident occurred at a transformer location where the deceased was reportedly tampering with electrical cables. Copper wiring from electrical installations, including transformers, has become a frequent target for thieves due to the metal's high resale value. Such thefts are not only responsible for widespread power disruptions but also expose both perpetrators and the general public to serious safety hazards.

According to initial accounts gathered by local authorities, the young man climbed onto a transformer with the intention of removing copper cables. During this attempt, he reportedly came into direct contact with live electrical components. The high voltage passing through the equipment caused fatal injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have since retrieved the body and transported it to a morgue, where it awaits further procedures, including a post-mortem examination. While no charges can be filed against the deceased, the circumstances surrounding his actions remain under investigation.
