A private legal practitioner says the Ghana Police Service does not have the legal right to make people wait 24 hours before reporting a missing person. Lawyer Paul Kumi spoke about this practice.

He explained that there is no law that supports this waiting period. This rule is being challenged amid public concern.

Lawyer Kumi stated that when someone disappears under worrying circumstances, families should be able to report it immediately. He argued that the police should accept reports without delay.

The lawyer's comments come after reports of families being told to wait before filing a report. This practice has caused distress for those searching for loved ones.

He stressed that the police have a duty to act swiftly in such situations. The law does not permit a mandatory waiting time.
