The Ghana Police Service has officially confirmed the arrest of a searchlight operator in Kumasi in connection with an alleged sexual assault of a minor. According to a statement released by the police on their official social media platforms the arrest followed the emergence of a viral video documenting the incident in the Ashanti Region.

Reports from Graphic Online and GhanaWeb indicate that the suspect was apprehended shortly after the footage began circulating on digital platforms. The police statement says the victim is currently receiving medical attention and psychological support through the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit commonly known as DOVVSU.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has taken over the investigation to ensure all legal protocols are strictly followed as noted by a Joy News report. Officials have emphasized that the identity of the minor must remain protected under the Children’s Act of Ghana and they have cautioned the public against further sharing the sensitive video footage.

Court proceedings are expected to commence once the initial investigation phase is completed by the police. According to a Citi Newsroom report the suspect remains in custody while investigators gather more evidence and formalize the criminal charges. The Ghana Police Service thanked the public for providing information that led to the swift identification and capture of the suspect.
