Personnel from the Ashanti Regional Police Command have successfully arrested three individuals on suspicion of operating an illegal firearm manufacturing and distribution network. The operation took place following intelligence reports regarding the supply of locally manufactured weapons to criminal elements within the region.
Authorities indicate that the suspects are currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations into the scale of their operations. This arrest follows a period of increased surveillance aimed at curbing the proliferation of illicit weaponry which officials believe contributes to violent crime across the regional capital.
During the initial phase of the operation the police recovered several items suspected to be used in the fabrication of firearms and ammunition. These exhibits have been documented and will be utilized as evidence during the upcoming legal proceedings as investigators work to identify the full extent of the suspects’ network.
The regional command stated that the suspects purportedly specialized in making firearms available to individuals involved in various criminal activities. While the exact number of weapons manufactured remains unconfirmed investigators are focusing on tracing any previous sales made to external parties in other parts of the country.
Police officials have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining public safety and reducing the accessibility of lethal weapons to unauthorized persons. They further urged members of the public to provide any information that could assist in tracking down other individuals participating in similar illicit trades within their communities.
The three suspects are expected to be processed for court once preliminary investigations are finalized. As the case remains under active investigation the identity of the suspects is being protected to avoid compromising further leads that may result in more arrests within the manufacturing chain.
