Four persons have been apprehended in Nsawam, Eastern Region, on suspicion of impersonating National Security officers and extorting money from a civilian. The arrests followed a police investigation initiated after a complaint was lodged regarding the alleged incident.

According to police sources, the suspects are accused of presenting themselves as National Security operatives during an encounter with the brother of the complainant. It is alleged that under this false guise of official authority, the individuals demanded and subsequently collected a total sum of GH¢3,700.

The matter was promptly reported to the Ghana Police Service, leading to an investigation that culminated in the arrest of the four individuals. Specific details regarding the methods employed by the suspects in their alleged impersonation and the exact circumstances surrounding the money's collection have not yet been fully disclosed by authorities.

Following their arrest, the suspects were arraigned before a court in Nsawam. After initial proceedings, the court ordered their remand into custody. This decision aims to facilitate further police investigations and ensure the continuation of the judicial process.

The accused are scheduled to reappear before the Nsawam court on February 5, 2026. Police have indicated that investigations are ongoing to ascertain whether these suspects may be connected to similar incidents of impersonation and extortion in other parts of the Eastern Region.
