A civil society organisation, the Center for Public Opinion and Awareness CENPOA, has called on the government to abolish fees charged when people apply to join security services.

This practice involves applicants paying money to apply for jobs in agencies like the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Prisons Service.

CENPOA stated that these fees prevent many capable citizens from pursuing careers in these important institutions.

The organisation believes that recruitment into security forces should be based on merit and suitability, not the ability to pay an application fee.

This call comes in a press release issued by CENPOA. The organisation wants to ensure equal opportunity for all Ghanaians interested in serving the nation.

The government has not yet responded to this call from CENPOA.
