The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has cautioned the public against using 20 mobile loan applications that are functioning without its authorisation. According to a notice from the Bank, these digital loan providers are offering credit services in violation of the Directive for Digital Credit Service Providers in Ghana, potentially exposing users to risks. The apps identified include Agile Loan, AmanaPay, CashWay, Foutou Credit, HastyCredit, InsCash, KudiNow, LendAura, Lever Credit, LoanGlide, NovaCedi, Palm Loan, PocketLoan, Rite Credit, SikaCare, SikaNow, Susu Loan, Taploan Up, Temivo Cedi, and Zatuloan. The BoG stated that the operations of these apps raise concerns about customer data privacy, consumer protection, and adherence to financial sector regulations. The central bank is continuing efforts to regulate the digital credit sector and safeguard the public from unauthorised financial service providers. Ghanaians are urged to engage only with financial institutions and digital credit providers licensed and approved by the Bank of Ghana. The BoG indicated it would collaborate with relevant state agencies to identify, investigate, and take enforcement action against unlicensed operators to protect consumers and maintain the integrity of the financial sector.
