The Ghana Police Service confirmed the successful rescue of a fourteen year old girl in the Ahafo Region after she was missing for over one week. According to an official police report and coverage by Modern Ghana the teenager was found on Monday January 29 2024. The victim had been previously reported missing on January 21 2024 which triggered a search operation by regional law enforcement commands.

Police officials stated that one suspect was apprehended during the rescue operation and is currently detained. Citi Newsroom reports that the suspect is undergoing interrogation to determine the motive behind the alleged abduction and whether other accomplices were involved in the crime. The identity of the suspect remains withheld by authorities pending formal charges in a court of competent jurisdiction.

The Ghana Police Service noted that the rescued minor was taken for a medical examination to ensure her physical wellbeing before being handed over to her parents. Graphic Online reports that the regional police command praised the cooperation of community members who provided information that led to the discovery of the victim location. Officers have characterized the operation as a significant success for the regional anti kidnapping unit.

While the initial report from Modern Ghana indicates the girl was kidnapped the police have labeled the ongoing case as an investigation into missing persons and unlawful detention. Officials have not yet disclosed the specific location where the girl was held or the items retrieved from the scene. The case is expected to be processed through the Ahafo Regional Police Headquarters for further action.
