The Ghana Police Service arrested two suspects following a series of violent robberies targeting suburban buses along the Winneba to Accra highway. According to a MyJoyOnline report published shortly after the incident, the gang intercepted multiple vehicles during the night and robbed passengers of their valuables at gunpoint.
Police officials confirmed that the swift response of a patrol team led to the apprehension of the two unidentified individuals. Citi Newsroom reports that the tactical unit recovered items suspected to be stolen property and tools used in the commission of the crime nearby. The names of the suspects have not yet been officially released by the regional command as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities are currently conducting an intensive search for other members of the gang who escaped into the nearby bushes. A GhanaWeb report states that additional security checkpoints have been established along the corridor to prevent further attacks and to provide protection for commuters traveling between the Central and Greater Accra regions during late hours.
The Ghana Police Service continues to urge members of the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects. Investigators have not yet established a definitive count of the total number of individuals involved in the robbery gang but believe they may be linked to other recent activities in the area according to local police briefings.
